Coolio named his second studio album Gangsta’s Paradise after the soundtrack’s lead single, “Gangsta’s Paradise,” released in August 1995. The song was a multi-platinum smash worldwide, topping pop charts in several countries, including the US Billboard Hot 100, where it spent 12 weeks alternating between the top two slots. “Gangsta’s Paradise” earned a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance and was nominated for Record of the Year in 1996. The MTV Video Music Awards awarded it Best Rap Video and Best Video From a Film.
